MISSION STATEMENT:
The
mission of Al-Furqan Academy, with input from all stakeholders,
is to provide our students with academically challenging, rigorous
and relevant learning experiences that will empower them to become
life-long learners. Our desire is that these educational experiences
embedded with the tenants of Islam will help our students to fulfill
their utmost potentials for both spiritual and intellectual growth.
VISION STATEMENT:
The
vision of Al-Furqan Academy is to plant seeds of life-long learning,
nurtured with a strong Islamic foundation, which inspire our students
to blossom into well-rounded and productive citizens, able to think
independently and make meaningful decisions that will help achieve
their individual potentials. Al-Furqan seeks to develop in each
student a positive identity as an American Muslim who is prepared
intellectually, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and physically
to succeed in tomorrow's world. Al-Furqan aims to develop in each
student a balanced character enriched with knowledge, inspired to
excellence, and committed to the betterment of family, community,
and humanity.
GENERAL SCHOOL POLICIES:
Attendance:
All students are expected to attend class everyday, unless they're
excused for illness, emergency, and/or a short leave of absence.
The faculty and administration at Al-Furqan Academy believe strongly
in the importance of regular and punctual attendance. Teachers
cannot teach students who are not present. Regular absences do not
offer good learning experiences for the student, and disrupts the
continuity of the instruction process for the entire class. Students
should arrive to school NO LATER THAN 8:30 a.m., for morning assembly
before going to class. When students arrive at 8:35 a.m., they're
considered tardy and must go directly to the office for a tardy slip,
prior to reporting to class.
Communication:
The successful
educational process most definitely begins with very open and honest
communication between all involved members of the child's education;
the school, the parents and the student. The school has the responsibility
and duty to inform the parent of the child's educational progress
through various means such as, parent-teacher conferences, open house
sessions, progress reports, report cards as well as informal conversations
with the parents. The parents then must take the responsibility to
enforce the proper behavior and performance, etc., needed for the
child's success.
Complaints:
Any complaints
regarding teachers, administrative, other staff members and/or school
policies and procedures must first be directed to the Director/principal
of the school for discussion with the concern parties. If the problem(s)
remains unresolved, the Director/principal of the school should be
enlisted to mediate a satisfactory solution. If there are still unresolved
issues, the school board will be contacted and asked to intervene.
Discipline:
All students at
Al-Furqan Academy are expected to adhere to Islamic standards of behavior.
Respect for fellow students, staff, school and especially, Masjid
facilities is mandatory. Failure to follow the school discipline policy
will result in consequences. A detailed discipline policy is described
in the parents/students handbook.
Uniform:
The dress code at
Al-Furqan Academy consists of the following items: A white or light
blue shirt or blouse. Polo style shirts are acceptable and school
t-shirts will be sold at the beginning of the school year. The pants,
knee length shorts, or jumper should be dark blue or khaki colored.
Modesty should be the rule in selecting your children's clothing.
Girls should wear a white headscarf so to be appropriately dressed
for the prayer. Shoes should be suitable for running and playing.
Also consider, especially if your child cannot tie his or her shoes,
velcro or zipper style enclosures. A reward/recognition system will
be developed for those students who consistently wear the school uniform.
Emergencies:
You will be contacted
by the school's Administrative staff in the event of an emergency,
i.e., your child becomes ill at school, unexpected severe weather,
etc. Therefore, it is vital that you keep us updated as your personal
family information changes; such as your address, all phone numbers,
including cell numbers, pagers, emails, contact information for relatives
and friends. Furthermore, in the event that your child must be picked
up by someone other than yourself, please provide a call and a written
notice to the Administrator's office with that person's
identity clearly evident. He or she must be prepared to show proof
of identity before release of the child. Parents' pick-up authorization
forms are available in the office.
Grading:
The grading system
at Al-Furqan Academy is intended to provide relevant feedback to the
parents and student regarding his or her educational progress.
